Port Hope

It’s my favourite town but of course, I live here. It has everything in my opinion – charming old historical neighbourhoods, beautiful old houses, lovely hills and views, a rich cultural centre, and of course the people.

Founded around the time of the American Revolution the town has grown in fits and starts over the years. Once a thriving port it was fiercely competitive with Cobourg vying for traffic on railroads leading to Peterborough and the rest of Canada.

Port Hope is home to Trinity College School and benefits from having such a school within its boundaries.

Take a walk up Walton Street and look in the store windows, or along Bedford or Dorset Street to see the mansions that were built for their wealthy owners. Maybe a walk along the river’s edge from the lake and watch the fishermen landing huge fish.

The choices are never-ending.
